A good photo book starts with good files. These five checks take a few minutes and prevent most disappointments.
1. Use the originals
Photos sent through chat apps are shrunk. Use the files from your camera or phone gallery. For a full-page picture, aim for at least 2,000 pixels on the longer side.
2. Mind the spine
In a hardcover or softcover the centre of a spread curves into the binding. Keep faces and important details away from the middle, or choose layflat.
3. Leave a margin
The safe-zone line in the designer marks where text and key details are safe from trimming. Pictures can run to the bleed line for a full-page look.
4. Expect warmer colours
Screens glow and paper reflects. Printed colours are slightly less saturated than on a screen; a touch more contrast helps.
5. Check captions twice
