Wheels, spokes and what the wheelset option changes

Close-up of a bicycle wheel hub and spokes

The wheelset is the upgrade riders feel first. Three things matter: how heavy the rim is, how deep it is, and how well the hub turns.

Alloy, 30 mm rims

The standard wheels have a wide alloy rim and 28 spokes front and rear. They are tough, easy to true and cheap to replace, the right choice for winter, commuting and a first season.

Light alloy, 35 mm rims

The light alloy upgrade saves about 380 g at the rim, where it counts most. The bike picks up speed faster and feels livelier on climbs, and the rims are tubeless ready.

Carbon, 50 mm deep

Deep carbon rims save about 620 g and cut through the air on the flat and in a group. They need a little more care in strong crosswinds and are the one upgrade we recommend riders try before choosing.

Keep them true

Check the spoke tension after the first 200 km and once a season after that. A wheel that wobbles when you spin it is a sign it needs a few minutes on the truing stand.

Pick a wheelset on a road bike, for example the Endurance Road Bike, and watch the price change as you choose.
