The designer does most of this for you, but a few checks save a reprint, especially on large sizes.
The checklist
- Resolution. Aim for 150 pixels per inch of the print; the size guide shows the pixels you need by size.
- Original file. Upload the original from your camera or phone, not a copy from a chat app: it is usually much smaller.
- Crop. Pick the size first, then crop; sizes have different ratios (2:3, 4:5, 3:1).
- Edges. On a gallery-wrap canvas about 4 cm of the picture wraps round the side: keep faces and text away from the edge.
- Colour. Screens are brighter than print; very bright blues and greens print slightly softer.
When the photo is too small
A small photo can still make a good poster at a smaller size. We look at every file and write to you before we print if a picture is not sharp enough for the size you picked.
