The designer does most of this for you, but if you upload a file, five checks save a reprint.
The checklist
- Size. Make the file the exact trim size, plus the bleed.
- Bleed. Extend the background about 1.5 to 3 mm beyond the cut line.
- Safe zone. Keep text and logos about 2 to 3 mm inside the cut line.
- Resolution. 300 dpi at the printed size; a screenshot or a web image is rarely enough.
- Colour. Screens are brighter than print; very bright blues and greens print slightly softer.
- Small text. Keep text above 5 pt, and avoid thin light lines on a dark background.
On a roll or a sheet
A roll or a sheet repeats your artwork on every label. Check the first label carefully: a mistake is printed hundreds of times.
